Quality Technician for Dayton, NJ Entry Level with a high school or equivalent education BWAY is a market leader in the manufacturing of rigid metal and plastic containers in the general line packaging industry. Our metal manufacturing facilities produce paint cans, steel pails, aerosol cans, F-style containers, monotop cans, pour top cans, oil cans and ammunition boxes. Our plastic manufacturing facilities make hybrid paint cans, pails, drums and tight head containers Job Description: Summary Collects sample plastic products and tests/inspects at various stages of the production process. Compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products. Follows inspection, test plan and coordinates quality assurance system to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established standards. Completes quality records, reports, logs, and notes on samples, tests, production, mold sets, etc. Uses knowledge of HAZMAT, Federal Regulations and GMP concerning production and product packaging and handling. Additional responsibilities may be assigned: Appropriate use of authority to place HOLD on product to stop process from producing non-conforming product. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Performs quality assurance testing as required in the test plan following Q.W.I for methodology. Performs additional testing as required by Q.W.I or supervisory personnel. Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities and specifications of plastic containers to coordinate department operations. Observes and records production operations. Actively participates in weekly shift meetings and employee training sessions. Insures priorities and sequences for manufacturing products are followed. Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization. Seeks methods to improve standard operational and working practices. Observes workers, molding machinery, and conveyors to ensure compliance with safety standards and operating efficiency. Compiles stores and retrieves production information. Coordinates with production personnel for parts, tooling, equipment and machinery. Communicates the results of any testing that pertains to non-conforming product Performs other related duties as assigned. Follows all safety rules and procedures and observes the operations to insure a safe environment. Upholds Site and Corporate Environmental Policies by following all Environmental Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: One-year certificate from college or technical school in manufacturing related area; or six to nine months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with and employees of organization. Must be able to read, write and understand English. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions percentages and averages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection and steel toe shoes are required and will be provided.
