Quarter Finals of Naalaya Iyakunar Season - 5!! After Pei - TopicsExpress

Quarter Finals of Naalaya Iyakunar Season - 5!! After Pei Kadhai, Sudhandhira Porattam, Ellam Maya & Idadhu Orathil, it was time for Kaapi Tea to explore the lighter comedy front. Several comedic one liners filled the air. I wanted something super small and trivial that would drive people nuts. One of the smallest elements on each of us is the mole. It doesnt stop there. It is also a well known belief that a something as small as the mole can make you lucky enough to conquer the world. This paradoxical belief gave birth to the idea of making a film out of it - Macham, The Mole! Three of bay areas most spontaneous comedy kings GK, Praveen & Thyagy joined Raghav in shaping up the screenplay and dialogues for Macham. Endless all nighters for a week brought the script together. It also ended up bringing in 22 characters into the film - the largest cast that Kaapi Tea has ever made a short film with. With under 3 weeks (read as 3 weekends) to shoot, and between 22 characters (aging from a new born to a 60 year old) and 11 locations (with india re-creation), the whole scheduling turned out to be a nightmare. We auditioned more than 100 to cast our 22 characters. Logistically Macham was the hardest project to execute. Starting from the birth at the hospital to the cradle scene to the Mundhiri-Sundari-Vandhurri, to the split screen trick, the josiakaran at the railway station and back to a hospital where all hell breaks loose - Macham really drove us crazy. But the key was that throughout this journey we kept laughing. Jokes skyrocketed both in front of and behind the camera resulting in making Macham a painless ride. With great support from the entire cast (not listing each one here in the interest of space :-p) and a super dedicated crew behind the camera, we managed to pull through the non stop shoot sessions that went on for three weeks. Being huge Quentin Tarantino fans, we decided to break the story into chapters and made Macham bold, colorful and gaudy with bright yellow generously on several frames. In post, Vidya began putting the scenes together with quite some VFX work for the split screen trick in the Tom n Jerry chapter. We were well overtime and subtle but powerful editing techniques had to be employed in order to keep the movie time within limits. Music formed a critical backbone of the story including a song on Macham as well to propel the story forward. The background scores from Vidyashankar were as always, unique. The Jokebox (a typical VS play of words on Jukebox :-p) became the killer promo for Macham. Director vasanth commented saying, Hero ku macham irundha varaikum director kum macham irundhudhu.
