Queens performance on that day has since been voted by more than 60 artists, journalists and music industry executives as the greatest live performance in the history of rock music and I have to agree. They came in and were told they had only 20 minutes to do their act. Freddie took this as a chance to excel this venue was made for him.. He was able to galvanized the stadium with some of their hits, in which Freddie Mercury at times led the entire crowd of 72,000 in thundering unison. What made this an even more spectacular event this crowd wasnt their for Queen but the event but he reached and stole the show. In fact they were not even the top performers at that time and were to be followed by some bigger names in 85. Other performers like Mick Jagger and David Bowie were quoted as admitting how they could possibly follow that up.. Even Elton John rushed into their dressing room afterwards, screaming that they had stolen the show. On a night on a shortened set to take a non Queen crowd and shine it was amazing. A set that I dont think any other can match. Fittingly they finished with the anthem We Are the Champions... On that day they definitely were
