Queensland Forecast Saturday 19 October A firm ridge along Queenslands east coast should push some mainly isolated showers onto the east coast and islands, and some areas of morning cloud and drizzle over the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Mainly fresh southeasterly winds along most of the east coast, strong at times over far northern waters. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible about the Gulf Country coast. Fine and sunny elsewhere. Maximum temperatures well above average in the west and southern interior. Fire Danger - Severe in the Channel Country, High to Very High over the remainder. Sunday 20 October A ridge should keep pushing some mainly isolated showers across the east coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the western Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Maximum temperatures well above average in the west and southern interior. Weather Situation A high (1029 hPa) near New Zealand extends a ridge along Queenslands east coast. A surface trough extends from the states northwest into the southeast interior, whilst a milder southerly change is moving up the southeast coast. Forecast for the rest of Friday Isolated showers and thunderstorms in an area from the Northern Goldfields down through the central interior during the evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southeast quarter of the state and the southeastern interior, though thunderstorms are expected to become more isolated and weaken later this evening. Some thunderstorms are likely to be severe over parts of the southeast interior and into the Central Highlands. Fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state. Mainly moderate southeast to northeast winds over the eastern tropics. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds across remaining areas of the state, with a fresh to strong southerly change moving over the far southeast during the day.
