Queensland Weather Situation The monsoon trough is expected to remain active over the Gulf of Carpentaria and through the Coral Sea during the next week. A low is expected to deepen over southeastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters during Monday and Tuesday. The monsoon trough will move north through the eastern Queensland tropics during today and tomorrow before becoming slow moving near Cooktown from Tuesday. Further lows may develop on the monsoon trough over the Coral Sea during the forecast period. A high over the southern Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge into central and southern Queensland waters. A new high will enter the Tasman Sea on Wednesday, reinforcing the ridge. Issued at 4:30 pm EST on Sunday 2 February 2014
