Question: Hi there I currently suffer with anxiety and I have been doing so well lately but with the last week Im very down. Im going on holidays today and Im very nervous about flying I have awful tension in my tummy wondering can anyone give me any advice how to relax on the plane thanks BFFA Reply: Since you are down to the wire, do you have any xanax or ativan? We usually tell people to get a prescription and try it before hand so they know how they will react, how much they need and how long it will take to work. I tell people to take it the day before too so they wont get so uptight and not sleep. Then while you are on the plane, start making your plan for how you are going to help your body not have anxiety. It is a great time since you are so motivated by the suffering. I always walk fast around the airport while I am waiting for the plane. No one thinks a thing about it. They just think you have been sitting too long. I also take a hard candy or gum to keep everything going in the right direction. I have a sick sack in my purse I took from a plane one time. That made me feel like if I did get sick, I have a bag handy. Make yourself get up and go to the restroom. You can stand in line and talk to people. I even talk to the people I dont know sitting next to me. One time, suffering terribly but knowing I must fly home, I asked the guy next to me, So Why Do You Think We Were Meant to Sit Together? Turned out he was terrified of flying and almost rented a car so he could drive home. We talked all the way and both he and I had quite a nice time. He said I helped him pass the time and he sure did help me.
