Question...Im in the mood to replace my beloved Surly LHT which has over 100,000 miles on it since 2006. The frame is starting to get a little long in tooth with stripped derailler mounting hole and rack mounting holes on the front fork. Im thinking that rather than invest more money into the frame, that it might be time to retire the bike and buy a new frame. But here is my quandry. I had the Surly LHT S&S coupled by Bilenky 5 years ago and ended up spending about $1200 for the coupling, hard case and a complete new paint job (that wasnt very good). As I tour almost exclusively outside the US, the S&S coupling is a definite that I want on the next bike. A lot of people tour with 26 wheels as they are pretty much the standard for around the world when a new wheel or tube is needed; not hard to find. The Surly is 700c wheels and I like the 700c (never rode a 26 wheel before) but I could also get a new Surly LHT disc trucker (an another requirement for a new touring bike) in 26 wheels. So what do people think about the 26 wheelset? Do you notice a big difference riding 26 wheels as opposed to 700c?
