Question about replacement steering joint U/Js: What tool do - TopicsExpress

Question about replacement steering joint U/Js: What tool do you use to tighten the nuts and bolts?! Due to the design, a socket doesnt fit well - it hits the shoulder on the pressed steel unit - this is a problem that doesnt occur with the flat sided heavy duty unit. Ive tried sockets, a wall-drive spanner, and crows-foot but none of them can get an effective purchase on the nut or bolt. See the pictures. Using 2 stubby 1/2 spanners, Ive managed to get it tight enough not to slide on the splines, but steering is kinda important and I want it as tight as possible. Is this just a badly designed joint and Im better off getting a different one? Or am I simply missing a special tool of some sort?
