Question from Margaret Schmidt My husbands Great Grandmother - Mary MILLS, Police No. 788 came out on Asia V, age 21, sentenced at Kirklands Sessions, England, 1846, for 10 years for stealing. Notes - Sentence Gang Probation - 6 months at ANSON. She married John NEWBOLD (convict) in 1848. He left Ross in 1853 to go to the Victorian Gold Fields, leaving her with 5 children. Found himself in trouble and was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment, and transported to Norfolk Island where he died. Mary had not heard of him from the day he left, so after 7 years she married William KENT of Ross on 17/3/1868 and had 2 more children She passed away in 1902 and is buried at Ross. Does anyone on this site have any knowledge of this Family or about Mary? - One of her daughters - Esther Hannah married William HIGGINS, son of Hugh and Mary Higgins of Campbell Town. Esther was my husbands Grandmother. Have quite a few pages of family lines on the HIggins & Kents, but always interested to know more! Many thanks!
