Question of the Day: Wed. May 21st The International Monetary Fund has expressed its concern about Malis President Ibrahim Boubacar Keitas luxurious 40 million dollar new airplane, despite his developing countrys deep dependence on international aid. IMF Spokesman said : We are concerned about the quality of recent decisions such as the purchase of the presidential plane worth $40 million and the issuance of a $200-million state guarantee to allow a private company to buy supplies for the army, end quote He also explained that President Keitas aircraft was not bought out of a 33 million dollar emergency funding the IMF deployed to the West African country last year. He said the funds were a loan from a private Malian bank. However, the IMF spokesman saw it as weaknesses in public financial management. This is why our Question of the Day is centered on this issue as follows: Is it the International Monetary Fund or the citizens of Mali that should be concerned about management of public funds in Mali?
