Question posted: What do you think the role of a board member is? My name is Rob Felber and I believe the following about the role of a board member on the Twinsburg Board of Education: The board is a policy-making body, per the “Functions of the Board” as stated at the following link on the school’s website: twinsburg.k12.oh.us/boardofeducation.aspx --This will be one of my longest posts – as the issues and questions that define us require more than a brief answer. Thank you to the Twinsburg Roundtable for being a fair and open-minded venue. -- In addition to the functions listed, I feel the voters are interested in my views “beyond” the text in the bylaws. My belief is that a well-rounded board member (and consequently the entire board) will perform best when diverse opinions, experiences and resources can be applied to our most important challenges. Fortunately the current board and the eight candidates for the three positions provide voters candidates that offer a wealth of knowledge and proven history of problem solving. My strengths are just that, a very diverse history of community, business and regional involvement. Challenges all schools face include financial, operational and of course the most important, the challenge of educating the students entrusted to our care. We have an astute, involved and caring administration – that was proven during the very difficult decisions prior to and following the operational change plan. It is inherit in a campaign for the candidates to expound on their experience. I know of no other way than to present mine. Additionally, as I have stated in numerous appearances, ask around town. You can take my word for it, but I would prefer you speak to those I have worked with over the past 18 years of involvement in many aspects of our community. This involves Chambers of Commerce in Twinsburg and Solon, Business Retention through Summit County, 13 years of American Cancer Society (Relay For Life), 1999 Presidents’ Award from Solon Chamber and 2012 Business Person of the Year from the Twinsburg Chamber, to name just a few. Besides being an owner of two business and knowing what it means to “make payroll” for those that entrust their livelihood to their community, I am also an active coach and volunteer. Additionally I am in my 31st year as a firefighter/paramedic and rescue technician for the City of Pepper Pike. I have and continue to be a guest speaker on regional college campuses and currently serve on such committees as the Cost of Freedom event as media coordinator and the Gavel Club speaking group at RB Chamberlin Middle School as a steering committee member. The role of the board member does not stop at the functions listed. We need to be the cheerleader for the district, the investigator of problems, the voice and face of the schools to the community. I am accessible via email at RobFelber@felberpr and via my mobile at (216) 299-3361. Thank you to those that have called, those that stop me around town and for your emails – your willingness to learn about the issues and share your concerns only strengthens my belief in this district and why I am running for this position. My campaign has not and will not accept donations. My skin in the game was my time, effort and the dollars required to effectively present my candidacy. I look forward to hearing from you. https://facebook/RobFelberTwinsburgCitySchoolBoard
