Quick Grocery Shopping Guide Grocery shopping for healthier foods may seem intimidating at first, but don’t be discouraged! It is actually quite simple and will make reaching your goals much easier by planning ahead. Average consumers at the groceries stores may be confused on labels that read low fat, low sugar and low carb, making it difficult to decide what products are actually healthy options versus nutritionally stripped chemical food-like substances. So how do we know what items to place in our cart? What are the best lean proteins, complex carbs and fats to purchase? You want a diet that is as whole and natural as possible. A food that is labeled ‘low fat’ may very well be double the sugar and triple the amount of chemicals and preservatives. This will only force your body to convert the sugar and toxins into fat in the long run. If you do not recognize an ingredient on a label, chances are your body won’t either. Stick to foods along the perimeter of the grocery store and fresh produce sections. These foods are higher in nutritional value, naturally satisfying and are fantastic tools to help your body build lean muscle and drop unwanted fat! Foods rich in nutrients will also provide your body with the energy and fuel it needs to stay energized throughout the day and in your exercise programs. Working out in the gym will not bring results without proper nutrition and supplementation. Giving the body the nutrition it needs to transform is key in reaching fitness and health goals. Make a detailed list before you enter the grocery store and have a plan! Plan ahead at all times and make sure you are not hungry before grocery shopping. This is a sure fire way to let your hunger pangs get the best of you! You do not want a craving to be a reason you end up with a few gallons of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream in your cart! When shopping and deciding what foods to place in your cart, stick to foods that are less processed, low in sugar and stay away from simple carbohydrates and fried options. If you keep healthy foods in your home you will eat healthier foods. The same goes for processed, sugary, fried or junk foods. If you continue to buy it, you will eat it!
