Quick Preview of weekend action [Admin-SWGB] As mentioned before the Men’s team play Birkenhead at home. Our opponents are in second place, 1 point behind East Coast Bays, with a goal difference of 6 to make up. East Coast Bays finished their league programme, and Birkenhead, like us are playing their last league game. Looking at the Northern League forum, the Birko fans may be surprised by our recent reshuffle of players. Crossed fingers that we do start with Shano and JP as wing backs to combat the wing play of the visitors. The main thing is we stop the likes of Sam Margetts cutting from the wing. That is how we conceded two goals at the Shepherds Bush earlier this season. For me, the fate of the title is not the main focus. I would rather get revenge as we deserved at least a point from our earlier league encounter. Anyway, be there as the game should get reasonable media coverage…. Recent results: Northern Premier League 2007 25 Aug Birkenhead Utd (H) W8-0 Northern Premier League 2006 24 Jun Birkenhead Utd (H) W6-3 The Women switch focus to the AFF Knockout Cup as they look to reach the semis for the second season in a row. Btw, thanks to the stand-ins for beating Western Springs 3-0 in the previous round (anyone know who the goal scorers were?). Maybe, some of them deserve a run on our subs bench, which has been looking thin in recent games. It seems that the fixtures organisers have given up trying to schedule the last few fixtures including one involving us which is a shame for the top 3 teams as the title has not really been decided. Anyway, our cup opponents are Onehunga-Mangere. We have not played them that often with the last fixture being in the grading round last season. We won that home fixture. On paper, we should be able to repeat that feat at Mangere mountain. But cup football can be full of surprises.
