Quick fact on real estate agents & commissions: Most residential - TopicsExpress

Quick fact on real estate agents & commissions: Most residential sales (in this area anyway) listed for sale through a licensed Real Estate Brokerage involve a 6% sales commission. That commission is paid by the SELLER, charged by the LISTING AGENT/BROKER. The Listing Agent/Brokerage MAY earn the entire 6% IF the agent(s) involved on both sides - sale & purchase - is with the same Brokerage. (What the Broker pays the Agent out of the commission is between those two parties.) IF there is an Agent from a different Brokerage representing the Buyer (and I highly recommend you use one), then the 6% commission is split 50/50 between the Listing Agent/Broker office and the Buyers Agent/Broker office (again, how much goes to the agent is between the Broker and agent).
