Quick preview of this weekend’s action The Men’s team play East Coast Bays away in the league this weekend. In recent seasons this would have ben a top of the table clash. Time will tell if the different approaches to player recruitment taken by both clubs will work out at the end of the season. We have a decent record on the Shore, but the 2010 result does stand out. But, we were in Chatham Cup mode that season and we did fall away after the Grading Round for the Northern Premier League was completed. Hard to pick the result this weekend, but obviously the Bay Olympic fans will hope the right Bay team wins. (p.s. had to laugh when I read about local derbies being the headline for a story about the next Chatham Cup round draw....it is drawn along regional lines.....still, I am kind of disappointed to get East Coast Bays since we played them in the Cup last season. A change of club would have been more interesting.) Recent results: NRFLP 2012 Sat 28/Apr East Coast Bays (A) W2-0 (Craig Wylie, Michael Mayne) 2011 Sat 4/Jun East Coast Bays (A) W6-2 (Ross McKenzie 3, Chad Coombes 2, Arash Sadeghi) 2010 – Rd 2 15 Sep East Coast Bays (A) L1-9 (Nick Crosswell) The Women’s team play Lynn Avon at home in the league at the weekend. The away loss to these opponents in the opening round was one of those games where we could have picked up a point. A couple of other games also stand out as being games where we could have got more points like the loss to Eastern Suburbs and the draw against Onehunga Sports. The recent results by Fencibles also highlight what might have been regarding our current league standing. So, can we repeat last season’s second half turn around? It would be nice to get some points for our improved performances.
