Quincy YMCA rant. The YMCA stands for Young Mens Christian Association. Today we arrive at the YMCA in Quincy Mass to use their sauna for Normans Weight Cut. When entering we are stopped at the front desk, this is normal so I figure we can have the first time free, this is the case at the Bath YMCA. However she says they do not do a first time free. So I say, thats fine I will just pay for a day pass for the both of us. Also letting her know I only want to use the sauna for an hour and leave. Then she tells me they do not do day passes. What??? No day passes? No first time free? Im from Bath Maine I do not want to join? Also I would have to be a member so I couldnt just join for a month. So thinking of how to get around this, we are crunched for time at this point. I explain that Im a member of the Y in Bath Maine and show her my card. She says she can call and verify, and I assume that because it states that all members can bring one guest we will be all set. Then she informs me that even though I am a member of the Bath YMCA I can not bring Norman in with me unless I am a Member of the Quincy YMCA. So here are two Christian Men, looking for some help, reaching for Normans Dreams, sent away!!! When did the YMCA become an exclusive Country Club. The very organization that Started out reaching young homeless men now has no room for the less fortunate. Its very Sad to see that their focus is much more on the profit of today, and not so much on the profit of eternity. The Bath YMCA does do a lot for our community, and has helped me and many of my friends, I just hope this is not the direction they will be taking. Big thanks to Super Fitness in Quinsy for letting us Mainers use their sauna. JYD
