As early childhood practitioners we must prevent this from happening to children we serve from infancy through age five. How Can you ensure that children are prepared for kindergarten ? Cognitive experiences are sequential, engaging children birth through age five in open ended questions that promote thought, problem solving, and critical thinking. Examples include; Having a print rich environment where everything is labeled, a minimum of five clearly defined learning centers in classrooms where children are six months through age five. A minimum of ten Age appropriate books for each age group. All cubicles, shelves, walls, tables, chairs, and furniture labeled with pictures. Talk to the children about everything that happens from the time that they arrive until they depart each day. Experience in infancy establish habits of seeking, noticing, and incorporating new and more complex experiences, as well as schemas for categorizing and thinking about experiences.
