But I do not bless good people for the good things they do; I bless bad people in spite of the bad things they have done. I delight in showing mercy to people who turn to me because they realize that apart from Christ, they simply can’t be good enough to be worthy of my blessing. My blessing is not that I accept their efforts at being good, but that I credit them with Christ’s own goodness. Arent’ you glad that your salvation does not depend on your own goodness but on my mercy? Instead of scrambling to do more, rest in the work of Christ who has done everything. Instead of pointing to your record of good deeds, look at the revelation of my kindness and love. Nothing could make me humbler or happier than the truth that I have been born again, not because of anything I did, but because of your mercy…
