Quoting from the book Redrawing India Shaheen Mistry - TopicsExpress

Quoting from the book Redrawing India Shaheen Mistry approached school Principals all over the city, requesting they give her one classroom in their school buildings for three hours every evening. She promised to clean the classrooms each day and carry all her teaching materials home each evening. Some administrators claimed that her idea to educate underprivileged children was way too revolutionary, while other complained that they would spread diseases to the other students. A nun at a reputable convent school even complained how she simply couldnt allow the children into her school, as the glass bangles worn by the daughters of the fishermen would scratch the desks of her classrooms. This happened about 20 years ago but I can assure you that many people still view good education as soemthing that only selected few should access.
