R.I.P.D. O.F.F. I just watched this mess on cable last night. It is a pure and simple direct (and boring) rip-off of the Men In Black movie franchise. This clumsy clunker has an utterly similar plot structure, painfully mangled by Ryan Reynolds (in the Will Smith role) and Jeff Bridges (in the Tommy Lee Jones role) as the goddammed most obnoxious prick on screen since the Anthony Weiner scandal... and Im not even talking about Weiners phone images. Kevin Bacon has apparently also lost the ability to read a screenplay, and accepted the role of the bad guy; which is not a spoiler since the writers so lacked confidence in their abilities (smart) that they didnt want to take any risks, so they tell you Bacon is a jerk just 7 minutes into the movie; which, unfortunately, only adds to the tedium. What fun you might derive in watching obvious rip-off films is typically looking for, and making a note of, the occasional similarities between the rip-off and the original. R.I.P.D. denies you even that pleasure by handing you the answer right away and consistently throughout... ...just check the box labeled all of the above. ________________________________ I wonder what my film critic friend Brian Lafferty thinks of this film, if he had seen it?
