R.I.P. Elliot Burton. Eliot (thats the spelling on his mailbox, Im pretty sure) was an energetic, kind fellow who moved into our old apartment on Pitt Street last January. He was always bicycling or walking about, collecting twigs and pinecones in a plastic pail, for later use in art projects. We had some nice conversations, during which he reminisced about being a teacher. He spruced up the sterile entry way of the apartment building with a collection of curated pinecones labeled to the effect of take some home and give them love. He also added an interesting forest of carefully chosen twigs artfully shaped and painted white, nice cousins to the overgrown almost obligatory hedges in front of the building. Although I only knew him a short while, and that I often had to cut our discourse short as I was traveling to this job or that errand, it was always a pleasure to cross paths with him, a warm, gregarious spirit rare in todays world. I was shocked to hear of his passing on the radio this morning.
