#R4bia #Egypt Hundreds protest outside Egypt embassy in Delhi against the bloodshed August 23, 2013 By Mumtaz Alam, Muslim Mirror, New Delhi, August 23: Hundreds of people – men and women, youth and elderly – gathered outside the Egypt embassy here from different parts of the national capital today to protest against the bloodbath by Egyptianarmy. They strongly condemned the coup and sacking of the first democratically elected government of Dr Mohammad Morsi. They demanded the Government of India to strongly condemn the bloodshed, recall its ambassador from Egypt and throw out the Egypt ambassador from India. The protest was organized jointly by several social, political and religious organizations including All India Muslim Majlise Mushawarat, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Welfare Party of India, Students Islamic Organization of India, Human Chain. Addressing the people, who wereshouting slogans against Gen. Al-Sisi, Saudi King Abdullah and others at regular interval, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, president, All India Muslim Majlise Mushawarat said the situation in Egypt is grim and worsening by every passing day. “The military has taken over the country and killing its people who are peacefully protesting notonly in Cairo but in every small and big city. The military has killedat least 6000 people, wounded 15000 and have arrested another15000. The military has sacked elected president and put him behind bar.” He said India should break its silence on the bloodshed and register strong protest. “We are demanding our government of India should become proactive, throw the Egyptian ambassador from India and recall the Indian ambassador from Egypt. India as the greatest democracy of the world must speak out, should not remain silent,” said Dr. Khan. Mujtaba Farooque, National President of Welfare Party of Indiastrongly condemned United Statesfrom the support to the bloody military coup. He alleged that whatever has happened in Egypt is the result of a conspiracy hatched out by America because, he said, America does not like democracy which does not suit it. “After 52 years, the people of Egypt had elected a government of their choice through a democratic process. But this democratically elected government was not acceptable to America and pro-American countries. They accept monarch who through suppressive means promote imperialism. They want such people who could legitimize Israel and protect. So whoever comes to power and talks about justice, these forces trigger civil war against him,” said Mr. Farooque. He demanded that the Egyptian military should be sent to barracks and the sacked government of Dr. Morsi should be restored. “We think Egyptian forces are extension of American forces and so we demand America to send Egyptian forces to their barracks and restore the sacked democratically elected president Dr. Mohammad Morsi,” he said. “We also demand our Indian government that as the second largest democracy it should snap diplomatic ties with Egypt until democracy is restored there,” he added. Yong research scholar Omair Anaswho is leading Egypt Solidarity Forum – an online forum of pro-democracy activists formed after the military coup, strongly condemned the bloodbath and demanded India to break its silence. “We have come here to express our solidarity with the people of Egypt who are sacrificing their lives for justice. We have registered our protest against thebloody military coup that sacked the first democratically elected government,” said Anas. “We are very much disappointed with the cold response of our Indian government to the ongoing bloodshed in Egypt. We were expecting that it would takea bold step and condemn the bloodshed first, and then must not have recognized the military coup. But still it has maintained much silence on the issue. We urge our external affairs minister Salman Khurshid to take bold stepand strongly condemn the bloodshed by the military and at least as a sign of protest, India should throw out Egyptian ambassador from here,” he demanded.
