RAHS Evening Lecture: Irish Famine Orphans July 17, 2013 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm Free Light refreshments served from 5.30 pm. Talk will commence at 6.00 pm In this presentation Perry McIntyre will address her extensive research of the mass female emigration from Ireland in the 1830’s and 40’s to escape poverty and enhance colonisation in Australia. The Famine Orphan Memorial Database and the Australian Monument to the Great Irish Famine bear testament to her commitment to preserve the legacy of destitute Irish women and other single women who made new lives and a new nation. Dr Perry McIntyre is a professional genealogist and historian and past Councillor of the RAHS. She is the current Chair of the Great Irish Famine Commemoration Committee, historian and College Archivist of St John’s College, University of Sydney and Adjunct Lecturer with the Centre for Global Irish Studies, University of New South Wales.
