RAJI BELLO ON THE GENOCIDE IN BORNO It is only an international military deployment that can save the people of Borno and neighbouring states from being completely wiped out. I have suggested it here before but it wasnt well received. We need an urgent deployment of rugged African armies who should be given technical and material backing by the West. The time for condemning the deployment of foreign troops because of a suspicion of Western imperialist motives is over. It is a matter of survival now, ideology can come later. The Nigerian system is clearly unwilling and incapable of saving the people of the northeast from extermination and we must look beyond Nigeria. The leaders of the northeast should either pressure the government to seek for the deployment of African armies or they should go to the AU/UN directly to make that request. This is how the Rwandan genocide unfolded while everyone sat and watched until the body count reached 800,000. Im not interested in commemorating a North-eastern Nigeria Genocide some 20 years from now. I just want it to be stopped immediately.
