RANDOM HANGTIME TEXT MESSAGE? Hello, Earlier this evening I received a text message saying that Danny B. invited me to his event, etc. Now I havent received a text message from Danny B. for quite awhile so I immediately clicked on the link to find out more. A screen appeared that said Adam Carroll was inviting me to this same event. I clicked on the Check it out button which landed me on the Hangtime Upcoming Local Events App. Since it was free, I had a couple minutes to spare and I was now curious, I downloaded the App and clicked Open. Then it asked me to connect via facebook and allow access to my friends list. I clicked NO. Then it said something about I would hear about more events with my friends if I connected via Facebook, so I did, so I could see what everybody was doing. Then I had a continuous list of events to scroll through, many of which were very relevant and seemed like cool events. I think I clicked on an RSVP for one, then clicked on Interested for a couple more. Then BAM!!! I believe at that point my entire list of facebook friends must have received text messages, including a couple of other profiles I personally have. Of course, if you click on the link in the text message, you are required to download the Hangtime App to find out about the event in the text. WHAT A SCANDAL!!! I would never knowingly give permission for an App to access my entire contact list without peoples permission, and especially to bother people with text messages whether they wanted one or not. And this is WRONG for an App such as Hangtime to take the liberty to send everybody on my list text messages without consent from anybody, and then to require downloading the App to received the actual information? What a scam!! I was happy to send them some feedback right before deleting the App, never to be revisited until somebody can convince me otherwise. Its too bad, as the events that were listed for me were pretty much quality events that interest me. My apologies GEORGE, Tony, Lena, Sheryl and my Step-mother Kay, who all contacted me immediately wondering why on earth Im texting through Hangtime. And apologies for bothering anybody else with this. Well, now you know. Its an App that could be useful if it wasnt using such a scandalous method to get new people to sign up.
