RANT ALERT: No Country for Old Men. Let me get the top two comments Im going to for this out of the way: 1. No, I didnt like it and 2. I get it. Anton was a symbol for death and the whole movie was about how no one can escape death and Tommy Lee Jones in the movie was to show us how times have changed but Death and evil havent. I understand the themes of the movie and what they were trying to go for, so when I say NOTHING. HAPPENED. Please dont tell me that I didnt get it. I will also say that the movie looked cool for all that nothing was accomplished and the tone could be a little creepy at times, but in the end, these were BORING, non-developed characters in NO story. What did we get to know about Lewelyn? What was the point of the coin toss? Anton kills a few people, sure, but outside of that, why is he the way he is? God, the Joker came out a year later and put this guy to shame in the pyscho killer area. He has no consistency. The whole film is just about random scenes of these characters randomly doing things and then just stops in the end. None of the characters offer any insight on these themes because none of these empty vessels are characters. They go through long scenes where we see them do simple things like buy things to go hide money or Anton is searching his house and that takes forever. This is a bare minimum cat and mouse thriller that is inconsistent and boring with no real characters and then *SPOILERS* the main character dies pointlessly. That theme actually can be kinda interesting (although Im not sure if anyone needs to be told you cant escape death) but in order for things like this to work, you NEED to tell a story and create characters, which this does not. This was a waste of two hours. If you like, glad you do! But I am mind-boggled as to why.
