RANT... For anyone who thinks people can just waltz up to the welfare office and get money from the government... My kids qualify for KanCare, which means we are not allowed to purchase insurance for them through the marketplace. Scott has no benefits (and no, Obamacare did not force his small-business employer to pay for his insurance. We pay for that.) We dont get any other services from the government, though our income is at the poverty level. Im going through the application process again, since they werent satisfied with our paperwork last year. I have to disclose bank accounts, with numbers and balances. Fair enough. But then, they want to know about Rosemarys savings account that was opened by Granny Rosemary that I have NO access to (but still counts as an asset somehow), the car that was given to us, the truck we paid off (at a much lower price than its value), even the airstream that was a gift and the fishing boat we bought for $200. Also, they want me to claim the $25-$100 I make playing a gig, which I could claim expenses for, but HELLO, Im a musician and about as flighty as they come, and I have no idea where documentation for those things are. People who think that abuse is rampant in the system... I challenge you to go apply for something, anything, just to go through the process and tell me if you still feel like a human when youre done.
