RAP members Lee Ann Gott & Elizabeth Murphy had their Letters to the Editor published in the Denver Post! Colorado Senate Bill 251, passed in 2013, which provided non-citizens access to driver’s licenses, was a common-sense measure ensuring safety on our roadways. The Division of Motor Vehicles recently presented the Joint Budget Committee a good-faith request to use the higher fees paid by people who have obtained these licenses to help provide an adequate number of offices to implement the law. Instead, three members of the JBC voted last week to reject the DMV’s request, essentially defunding the program, making it impossible for most qualified people to get an appointment to take their tests to become licensed drivers. It’s common sense public policy to have all drivers trained, tested, insured and licensed. I hope their Republican colleagues will convince these JBC members to reconsider this decision and use common sense to serve the people of Colorado. blogs.denverpost/eletters/2015/01/26/colorado-gops-rejection-funding-immigrant-drivers-licenses/35996/
