RAUL TORRES MAGTALAS 9 August 1965-25 July 2014 Raul [pronounced Rawl] Torres Magtalas left this earth and returned to his heavenly home after a brief but valiant fight with Liver Cancer. Born in the Phillippines he emigrated first to Canada with his parents who were working there as engineers. He came to California at the age of two and grew up in Cerritos, CA. He attended and graduated from San Francisco State and began his career as the original Director of the Project Open Hand Food Bank feeding AIDS patients in San Francisco. He later had a career in Employment Services and most recently was employed in the HR Department for Bank of the West in Los Angeles. He was a world traveler and had a passion for the Greek Islands, especially Santorini. He was at home in Ecuador, Mexico, throughout Europe and the USA. He was adaptable to new environments and spread his joy and made friends wherever he went. He was the first one at the party and the last to leave, he took an interest in everyone and could make you feel welcome and special regardless of who or what you were. Raul will be deeply missed by his many friends around the globe, especially his extended family in San Francisco. He is survived by his father Norberto Magtalas and his brother Ferdinand and was predeceased by his adored mother Aurora in 1991. He also leaves his former partner and friend Ken Gallant and many other special friends, including Mylene [Acosta] & Nerius Mercado, Alicia and Belinda Cabe, Michael Gutierrez and many, many others whose lives he touched. A vigil service will be held on Thursday, July 31st at the Chapels of Forest Lawn in Cerritos, CA from 5 to 9PM. His funeral service will be on Saturday, August 2nd at 11:30AM at the Church of Our Fathers at Forest Lawn at 11:30 AM. There will be a procession to the grave where he will be laid to rest next to his mother whom he worshipped and adored. He will not be forgotten.
