RAVISHING WOMAN OF THE DAY: EVELYNA CASTRO (Ms. Wheelchair Washington 2014) Platform: Acceptance through adversity without conforming. Evelyna Castro was born with Spina Bifida which is a developmental congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube and thus leaving her on the wheelchair. Despite all her physical challenges she was always working to follow her dreams and transform her passion into her career. There were some roadblocks when she wanted to attend makeup school. Various makeup schools were not willing to accept her as they used to think that she would be a hindrance to other students. Evelyna did not lose hope and finally attended Cinema Makeup School. Evelyna started off doing basic character and FX makeup for theatrical productions she participated in as a stage actress, then made her way into various areas of Beauty makeup such as Boudoir, High Fashion, Runway, Photo Shoots. She also started getting more and more involved into makeup fx. when she moved to WA State in 2006. She also attended Foothill Theatre Conservatory: A 2-year Professional actor-training program. Evelyna is also in the process of finishing her Theatre Arts and Business degrees. Today Evelyna owns her own Voice-over business and Makeup FX business and has been doing makeup for approximately 10 years. For all her efforts, struggle and will power Evelyna is crowned as Ms. Wheelchair Washington 2014. Congratulations to her! As Ms. Wheelchair Washington Evelyna wants to speak at/attend events at various venues including, and not limited too rehab facilities, independent living facilities, community resource centers, and schools to inspire people with disabilities and people from all walks of life to pursue their goals/dreams, stay true to themselves without having to conform to society’s beliefs.
