RDR Update #21: Holbrook/Petrified Forest Distance: 28.9 miles This morning I got to run through the old town Holbrook and passed the famous WigWam Hotel (a.k.a Traffic Cone Hotel) on Route 66. After that, the landscape quickly changed and I began desert running. Ive done a lot of desert running since the 1st, but todays views were very unique. To our surprise, there was petrified rock just everywhere along our path. We collected a few samples. Eventually, we reconnected with Route 66 and the weather took a horrible turn. The snow and sleet came down hard and felt like needles were poking us in the face. Brrr! We were thankful to end the day and come back to the KOA where Danielle had some hot chocolate and a warm meal waiting for us. Thanks goes out to Cal and Jean Vollnick for their donation!
