RE-CHARGING MY BATTERIES !!! On Sat. Oct. 5 th. we left our home in Sebastian at O-Dark Thirty in the morning to make our yearly Trek to my In-Laws Cabin in Fleetwood N.C. - After Numerous stops we arrived in the early afternoon where we Quickly settled in & watched College Football (poor georgia) compliments of Direct TV - The odometer read 660 miles & the ToyotaRotti P/U Hummed Flawlessly - Sunday mornin came & it was to be a Leisurely day beginning with Coffee in hand & headin out to the porch & set in the SWANG where we could look across & down at the mountains - Truly Only God could have made such a place of beauty - Lunchtime found us in the car ridin for about 20 minutes over to sum friends cabin where we were Treated to sum Venison Chili & Venison Summer Sausage that was absolutely Awesum - Monday mornin came & found me headin to the Swang with coffee in hand - A Pattern Had Begun - After breakfast it was down to the garage where I wheeled out the Brinkman Smoker - SHE got rinsed then SHE got Fired Up to get HER ready fer sum smokin - Theres just sumthin about sittin on a mountaintop watchin the smoke rise up to the clouds - Thats when I find myself talkin to the Cherokee Indians & Jesus - And thats just what I did - All Day Long - P.S. - I Never Got Thirsty - Rollin Smoke-Prayin-Great Company-Great Food & Thankin God for the Beauty of it All - Wednesday Mornin came & you already know what I did First - It was another leisurely mornin then it was time to ride over to Jefferson where we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant named Tamales - it was Perty Good - Then we rode to a secluded spot along the New River - If theres Anyone out there that Doesnt believe in God you should let me take you to this place - It didnt just jump out of the ground by accident - But if you really believe it did then I am worried about your Soul - This place is Truly Burnt into my mind - Thursday mornin came & found me Breaking The Pattern - With friends coming for dinner there was Much To Do - With Coffee in hand I Fired up the SHE SMOKER to get ready for an All Day Smokin & Conversin Session - First in was Two Nice Pork Butts - I had brought sum fresh cut Florida Oak with me which is my favorite to use most of the time - Next I put a pan of beans in the coolest spot to get its share of smoke - About 12:00 I put three racks of Babybacks in for about 4 1/2 hrs. - About 2:00 I put in Two nice Fryer Hens - Now to the Afore mentioned Stuff we added sum Red Ranch Potato Salad & Coleslaw & Cream Puffs - Add yur favorite beverage & You my friend have a BBQ Feast - Mixed with Sum Family - Sum Friends - Sum Great Food & sum N.C. Mountain Air I just say Yesss Mamm !!! Friday mornin came & it was Back to my pattern - Coffee made with mountain water is as good as it gets - The Porch Swang is an awesum thing when you have the time to sit & enjoy it which is what I did till about 12:00 - then it was back to Jefferson & Tamales for lunch - another pattern had begun - after lunch I rounded up everything I needed then headed back to the Cabin - The friends that treated us to the Venison lunch were coming over for dinner friday night - since it was cool outside I decided to make a pot of Shrimp & Sausage Gumbo - It Did Hit The Spot - Saturday mornin presented itself - last day there & continue the pattern - For sum reason the coffee that mornin seemed to have been the best - afterwards it was time to clean up the SHE GRILL & get Her back in the garage till next year - fore I knew it College Football was startin - Hmm - Another Pattern - Mix in sum fresh air with boiled peanuts & choice of beverage & its another great day - Then came Sunday - TTHD (the trip home day) - Up early packin up the ToyotaRotti - sippin on coffee in between - Once in the Truck I put my window down while comin down the mountain so I could fill my lungs One Last Time with that Fresh Cool Mountain Air - Was a Long ride home but it was a safe trip - I Love the mountains for a great change of pace - BUT - I love my Florida East Coast Livin - NOW - If I could Only figure out a way to get the NEW RIVER to Run Thru My Back Yard !!!
