RE: Please Support House Resolution 642 Dear Congressman Matheson: As your constituent, I write to urge you to support the bipartisan resolution introduced by Representatives Schneider and Weber that calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the three Israeli teenagers who were kidnapped and are being held in the West Bank. Late Thursday evening on June 12, 2014, Eyal Yifrach, 19, and Naftali Fraenkel and Gilad Shaar, both 16, left their schools in the Gush Etzion region of the West Bank to return home for the Sabbath. Not long after, one of the boys managed to call an emergency number and report that they had been kidnapped. The following Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held Hamas responsible for the kidnapping, an assertion that has been verified by Secretary of State Kerry. The State Department has condemned the kidnapping and reiterates that Hamas is a terrorist organization known for its attacks on innocent civilians and employment of kidnapping. At the same time Hamas leader Khalid Meshaal stated that he blesses the hands of those who kidnapped, and if there is a confirmation that a Palestinian group is behind the kidnapping, we should applaud and take off our hats to them. The bipartisan resolution calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the Israeli teenagers, and reaffirms the unshakeable Congressional support for Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, with secure borders, existing in peace and security alongside an independent Palestinian state. Further, the resolution reiterates the Congressional commitment to upholding the conditions in U.S. law regarding assistance to the Palestinian Authority. The law forbids assistance to a power-sharing PA government that includes Hamas as a member, if Hamas continues to reject the Quartet principles on advancing Israel-Palestinian peace. I request that you co-sponsor and support this important resolution. Thank you for your consideration of my views on this vital matter. Respectfully, Kimberley Kincher 5141 Cobble Creek Drive West Jordan, UT 84081-2704
