RE-Post:: Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Dear Friends, Exodus 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. When a Jewish woman lights the candles at the beginning of the Sabbath she lights two of them. The reason is to commemorate this verse. One candle is for ‘remember’ and the other is for ‘keep.’ You may ask how you could separate these two commands. Could you keep the Sabbath without remembering it? Well, Yahweh placed these two words in the commandment for good reason. In most of the world today people do not remember THE Sabbath day. Many observe no day. Many Christians observe the wrong day. Muslims observe a different wrong day. Some few claim they observe all days as days of worship. Yahweh tells us we must remember the Sabbath. Remember the same Sabbath He observed at creation. Remember the same Sabbath our Savior, our example, observed two thousand years ago. Remember the same Sabbath that has been a sign between Yahweh and His people for six thousand years! (Exodus 31:13, Ezekiel 20:12, and Ezekiel 20:20 “hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am the Yahweh your Elohim.”) And we must also KEEP IT holy. Elohim rested from all His labors on the seventh day. Those who keep Sunday do not usually rest all day and avoid buying and selling. Even some who remember the seventh day Sabbath do not keep it as entirely holy time, set apart to Yahweh. We need to review our Sabbath activities and yield to Yahweh in this. We do not decide what is appropriate to do on Sabbath. The Son of man is Sovereign over the Sabbath. I am not. It is my choice to do His will or not to do it but He decides HOW Sabbath is to be kept. Exodus 20:9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of Yahweh your Elohim. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. (Set it apart for His purposes) Even though it is not a law from the scriptures; we may want to follow the custom of lighting those two candles in our own homes to remember and to keep. Let us rededicate ourselves to following our Savior and loving Yahweh with total dedication. Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day with shalom and light.
