REALITY SHOW FOR Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe 2013! Upgraded Miss T&T coming Story Created: Jun 20, 2013 at 8:13 PM ECT Story Updated: Jun 20, 2013 at 9:48 PM ECT Screening for the 2013 Miss Trinidad and Tobago/Universe takes place on July 6 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and 7 (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) at the Hilton Trinidad. Twenty women will be selected from the screenings to compete for the opportunity to represent this country at the International Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow on November 9. Produced by Tribe Carnival, this year’s local leg of the pageant will feature a number of new elements aimed at making the overall production more exciting and allowing for the general public to have more insight into what the candidates will experience during their preparation for the final night of the Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe on September 7 at a venue that will be announced in the coming weeks. Tribe Carnival founder Dean Akin told the Express that when he and his team took control of the local Miss Universe franchise last year they were creeping with the assistance of several people who had been involved in running the pageant for years. This year they are ready to run with the competition and have made several changes that have received the approval of the owners of the International Miss Universe Pageant. “We are very thankful to and appreciative of all the help given to us last year by those who worked with us in producing our first Miss Trinidad and Tobago/Universe. “But this year we are working on our own for the most part and have decided to move away from the traditional pageant format. “We are introducing an elimination process between the screening and the final by engaging the women in a series of challenges, four to be exact.” “The challenges will basically be a photo shoot where the woman or two women who are judged to have delivered the least impressive performances will be eliminated. “The second is a training challenge in which they will be tested on what they are taught in the training sessions for; Interviews, Walking/Posture/Movement, Physical Fitness and other areas.” “The third challenge will be based on a charity project that the women will be engaged in and the last challenge takes place at the final where they will display what they have learnt on hair and make-up during the weeks leading up to the pageant. “We will film the challenges and other aspects of the preparation to create a mini reality series to be shown on television in the four weeks before the final. “This way the public will get to know the candidates and be able to choose their personal favourites for the title,” Akin said.
