RECOVERY OUTCOMES for MTBI: Excerpt from Introductory Chapter of Regaining Consciousness: My Encounter with Mild Brain Injury--The Silent Epidemic by Deb Angus (2014, SierraNovaPublishing) In the past, it was believed that two years was the expected window of recovery for most symptoms from brain injury. After that, not much improvement was to be expected. There is a limit as to how much recovery can take place. This limit is set by the kind of injury, the amount of damage, and the age and lifestyle of the brain-injured person. The time when most recovery takes place is in the first six months after the injury. Although, people have continued to improve five, ten, or more years after a brain injury.(Ref 60, 61) Recovery from brain injury can often take many years, and it is important to realize that recovery may never be complete.(Ref 62) .................................................................................... 60.
