RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM THROUGH 11 PM TONIGHT FOR EASTERN COOS COUNTY, EXTREME EASTERN CURRY COUNTY, AND ALL OF DOUGLAS, JOSEPHINE, JACKSON, KLAMATH, AND LAKE COUNTIES IN OREGON. ALL ARE AS OF SISKIYOU COUNTY EXCEPT FOR THE EXTREME SOUTHERN END OF THE COUNTY INCLUDING THE MT. SHASTA AREA, AND ALL OF MODOC COUNTY IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. The National Weather Service Office in Medford, Oregon, has issued a Red Flag Warning for abundant lightning striking critically dry fuels through tonight at 11 pm. This is for thunderstorms producing abundant lightning striking dry fuels. In addition, outflow winds from thunderstorms are likely to be 30 - 50 miles an hour. This will cause rapid growth in any new fire starts. Existing fires will also be impacted by the thunderstorms. Erratic winds may cause explosive fire behavior and send fires surging in any direction. Anybody with outdoor plans such as camping is advised to be aware of the situation and to keep an eye on the forests near them. If you are in the woods, evacuate immediately if a fire begins near you. Also, be sure to call 9 1 1 to report any new fire start.
