REDEFINING A WAY OF LIFE TAFSIR OF SURAH AL-AHZAB ... Surah Ahzab depicts the beginning of long lasting legacy for the Muslim community: when the Islamic character of both community and state had crucially begun to take shape. With large numbers embracing the new faith, a new system was about to be established. The surah imparts the Islamic framework for society through a social re-organisation of family and community life. This is intriguingly conveyed using the account of the battle of the ditch to specify guidelines on social interactions within the growing Muslim community. This surah also addresses the prophet directly, bringing to light issues pertaining to the family of the prophet, rights of adopted children, marriage, behaviour with the prophet and the honouring of his wives.
