REDUCING TAXES in the Philippines is a FINANCIAL POLICY, or APPROACH, GOING WAYWARD : I know that I will be going against the tide with my stand relative to an ongoing congressional considerations of a proposal to exempt the 13th month BONUS from being taxed. It is of common knowledge that TAXES are for the common good of everybody, where the more fortunate earning people have to share the burdens to benefit the entire nation, particularly those who have less in life, the POOREST of the POOR segments of our society. A country, like ours, that is just beginning to rise from financial hardships brought about by rampant corruptions it has been under for centuries, urgently needs everyones cooperation and sacrifices to more effectively effectuate the much-needed progress that every Filipino keeps on praying and hoping for for the common good of all of us. What really puzzles me a bit is that those who have been clamoring to lower our tax-brackets, comparing them from other countries, are those more fortunate ones, thinking only of themselves, without regards to the interests of the whole nation that is in dire need of funds to meet the demands of the times during this era of so much competitions the world over. While they may have some factual basis in their arguments, they must not lose sight of the fact that majority of those other countries underwent an almost unbearable sacrifices long before they turned to be progressive and now enjoying the fruits of their practice of self-abnegation for a long period of time. I dont see any valid reason why we cant do exactly like that, most especially that of all countries in this galactic universe, we, Filipinos, are the MOST CLOSELY KNIT FAMILIES. GOD bless my beloved Philippines, and its ALWAYS SMILING PEOPLE. (Atty.
