REGISTRATION OF GRAVE SITES Let’s see if the City Council has - TopicsExpress

REGISTRATION OF GRAVE SITES Let’s see if the City Council has a plan to upkeep our cemeteries. Fingers crossed. The approach (registration of ALL grave sites) is the right step forward, provided that the city council now takes a genuine interest in showing respect for our loved ones who have gone before us. Also, this is against the backdrop of the sterling work undertaken by the Sierra Leone Bicentenary Trust, a UK based charity, fencing the Race Course Cemetery and documenting all the identifiable grave sites there in a database. My feeling is that the proposed “registration of graves” is the prelude to new taxation. However, if this “taxation” is ring-fenced and the income used to maintain and upkeep the fences and cemetery grounds on a monthly basis, we should welcome the move. Two months’ notice is not enough. A more realistic timescale would be a year, giving people living abroad the opportunity to make appropriate arrangements.
