REJECTING THE ATLS (Arts Term Licensing Scheme) An artist - TopicsExpress

REJECTING THE ATLS (Arts Term Licensing Scheme) An artist should be allowed to fully explore and immerse himself/herself in all topics without fear of self-censorship. The ATLS will obstruct their creative processes as such a scheme pushes the role of censorship to the artist and then proceeds to punish them if they have wrongly classified their work. The role of censorship should remain with the authorities. You do not hand a cane to a child to cane himself for not correctly stating his misdeeds. In time to come, artists may take a kiasu approach to classification by giving a higher age restriction, they may then alter their works to be in compliance, and long before you know it, our arts scene will no longer be a place to explore ideas and topics. This will destroy the progresses over the years to Singapores arts scene. WHAT CAN YOU DO AS THE GENERAL PUBLIC Learn more about Arts Engages position paper and support it (artsengagesg.org) - Arts Engage is a group for artists to discuss policies that impact their works. The paper recommends (1) delaying the tabling of the bill and (2) consulting both artists and the general public. youtube/watch?v=JnOw2cMri3E - Logen Lanka
