REJOICE, MY PREDICTION HAS FINALLY COME TRUE! (Please read this long comment in its entirety before commenting) I started Israel advocacy on the web a little over two-and-a-half years ago (a year after I quit my corporate career), at which time most Israelis and Jews I met were VERY surprised when I told them about the kind of support that existed for Israel among Indias 1-billion-strong Hindu population. They mistook the Indian governments past animus towards Israel as being reflective of the will of the people. I explained to them the reasons for Indias hostility to Israel in detail. I told them that India, since pre-independence, had a one-party system dominated by an authoritarian, radical left-wing political family (the Nehru-Gandhi family), which ran this country based on ideology and NOT reality. They represented only a tiny fraction of Indias Hindu population, but with their firm control over the nation, popular will hardly matter, and they ruled this country for almost 60 out of 67 years of independence. I explained to the Israelis I interacted with all throughout 2012 that as soon as a free-and-fair election is held in India, and a person who truly speaks for Indias 1-billion-strong Hindu population becomes the countrys executive, Indias position on Israel would take a 180-degree turn, albeit gradually. In May 2014, a free-and-fair election did take place, and Narendra Modi and his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won an overwhelming majority of seats in Indias lower house (the house that matters) of parliament. His coalition won 330 (approximately) seats out of 545 in the lower house of parliament. The Nehru-Gandhi family-dominated Congress party has about 45 seats. Modi and the BJP won so convincingly that there wasnt even an opposition in parliament for the first few months. In my honest opinion, the Nehru-Gandhi family has been relegated to the pages of history, but time will tell whether Im right on that one. Now, we have some weak, fickle bunch of parties in opposition that are so disorganised that theyre totally impotent. Moreover, theres absolutely NO political opposition to Modi and the BJP, both at the political level and at the grassroots, and Modi is doing an absolutely FABULOUS job as PM of this country. Add to that, in state-election after state-election, Modis party is grabbing power in free-and-fair elections, meaning even ties with Israel will improve even at the state level. All-in-all, this means that the BJP and Modi are going to be in power for a LONG, LONG time to come. And FINALLY, Shaleen Vashisht sends me this article today that PROVES Im right.
