REJOICING IN ADVERSITY Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— 18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:17-18) The passage describes two things that rarely go together - famine (unmet expectations) and joy. The natural reaction when we face any form of adversity or disappointment is to be angry, bitter or to keep asking Why me? But the Joy that comes from the Lord gives us strength in such times. The joy of the Lord is more than happiness or a feeling. It is the calm assurance and inner strength that comes from His presence and enables us to fight the good fight of faith and to win it. It is the joy of the Lord that strengthens you to hold on to your dream that seems to be fading away, to fight for your struggling marriage or business or hold on in the face of delayed expectations. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, REJOICE ALWAYS, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Thank God today and be joyful. It is well with you. Youre blessed indeed!
