RELATABILITY: Ok, I hate that word. But as teachers, we find ourselves trying to connect to and tap into our students experience. A few years ago, I learned never again to bring up anything Star Trek. While the original and STNG had been pop culture touchstones for decades, they havent been for a long time. The new movies, while box office successes, are devoid of the quintessentially Star Trek philosophical quandaries. In any case, I grew up with the Next Generation series which started airing when I was in sixth grade. Rarely, extremely rarely, do actors live up to or exceed the roles theyve played.
