RELIGION AND NIGERIA Nigeria is a secular state. Nigeria is not an islamic state and is not a christian state. Nigeria has no state religion. That is, Nigeria did not adopt any religion as an official religion. None of these religion preach the unity of Nigeria. The leaders of these two religions are always competing for interest and attention. These two religions have not taught us the love of country. These two religions have divided Nigeria more than any other factor as of today. The leaders and followers of these two religions unite only when there are material advantages to be shared among themselves in secret. They do not speak the same language in broad daylight. The govt of Nigeria promotes these two religions by setting up pilgrimage boards to manage the affairs and travel matters of the followers whenever they want to visit their headquarters in Rome, Mecca or Jerusalem. The govt pays the staff of the board and sometimes, sponsors worshippers to these well organised cities for religious purposes. Whereas, our cities are neglected by the followers of these religions. What feelings come over our people whenever they visit these cities for religious worship? These two religions may kill Nigeria. What is the way forward?
