RELIGIOUS UPHEAVAL IMMINENT IN SEPETERI. There exist palpable tension in Sepeteri town in the Oyo North Area of Oyo State in recent times when Ore-Ofe Baptist Church building in Sepeteri, Shaki East Local Government area of Oyo State was burnt down the second time allegedly by some misguided Muslims. This is coming in barely six months when the first unfortunate incident occured. The first burning down of the church building took place on the 20th day of December, 2012 while the second was carried out on the 19th of May, 2013. From our investigation, the reason for this ugly incident is that some Muslims within the town strongly opposed the building of the Church (i.e. Ore-Ofe Baptist Church) on the land which they (Baptists) have acquired since 1973 – forty years ago, long before the sects of Muslims known as (IBAAD RASHEED ISLAMIC SOCIETY SEPETERI) acquired their own land (which is situated about 600 meters adjacent to the Baptist Church). According to reports reaching us, the members of Ore-Ofe Baptist Church Sepeteri reported the matter to the Ago Amodu Police Station in Shaki East Local Government area of the State on the 10th of January, 2013. The Police have since commenced investigation into the matter and equally making sure that there is no further break down of law and order. It is to be noted that before now, a peace meeting was brokered by Oba Karimu Oyesiji Akanji between the Muslims Community and the members of the Ore-Ofe Baptist Church on the 10th of January, 2013 and yet the said Members of the Muslims sects went ahead in burning down the church building. The matter has become a subject of litigation presently before the High Court of Justice precisely court 17 and 16, Iyaganku, Ibadan in Suit No: M/234/13. The counsel to the Baptist Church, Barrister Kayode Bankole Esq informed our reporter that he has filed a Counter Affidavit dated 19th day of June, 2013 and a Notice of preliminary objection dated 24th day of June, 2013 against the motion of Notice dated 10th day of June, filed and served on him by the counsel to the Muslims – Barrister Babatunde Falola Esq. All effort made to reach the counsel to the Muslim sect proved abortive has the matter was adjourned to 9th of July, 2013 for hearing of various pending applications.
