REMARKABLE PEOPLE: Todays remarkable person is Zenaida, now known as Zeny (at least thats what her new name tag says)! Why is she remarkable, you ask? 1) She works primarily as a cashier in my work cafeteria, although she sometimes helps out serving food or anything else Im assuming is needed or required for her to do by her boss. 2) I have never, EVER seen this lady with a frown, despondent, upset, angry, nothing. I have NEVER seen her with an I dont care/could care less attitude. Sadly, this is lacking in the service industry, but not when it comes to Zeny! 3) She is one of THE most pleasant people I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Always smiling, always personable, and always engages in small 30 second conversations while processing your order, even if theres a huge line up because she can do so without it affecting her efficiency. 4) What I like most about her, however, is this. She always calls me by name! If Im about to pay for a meal, shell say, How are you today Yohan? If shes on break, eating with her co-workers and Im walking by, shell say Hi Yohan. If Im on break and shes leaving for the day, shell make sure to waive or say goodnight when walking by, even out of uniform, scarf swallowing her face, mitts on and everything! And get this, she doesnt only do that for me. Whenever Im in the line up, I hear her greeting the person before me, and sometimes after me in the same manner. This morning she said good morning to Dennis (the guy right in front of me). When he left I jokingly asked her if she has the name of everyone in the building memorized. Her response? I try (with a polite giggle). Oh, if I could have hugged her at that moment! Such a beautiful heart. This woman walks in such strength, such power, such an awesome ability to affect lives. Im positive, emphatically persuaded that her consistent attitude has SHIFTED the atmosphere in THOUSANDS of lives. Who knew such power could be wielded through such a humble smile? Theres not a day that goes by that I dont look for her when I walk into that cafeteria. Zenaida, even though you are probably not on Facebook and may never see this, you continually affect me in such a positive way that I wanted to tell the world about it. You are a remarkable lady, an inspiration and a blessing to many lives!!!!
