REMEMBERING GODS GOODNESS IN BAD TIMES What are some of the most beautiful things you have ever seen? A field of vibrantly colored flowers? A waterfall? A loved ones smile? A crystal clear lake? A painting? A babys face? A sparkling jewel? An act of love toward someone? Take everything that has ever touched you deeply with its beauty, put them all together, and you have only a fraction of the beauty of the Lord. Its hard to imagine. David said, One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple (Psalm 27:4). Above all else, David wanted to look on the splendor, radiance, holiness, goodness, and glory of God, and be close to Him forever. Isnt that what WE want too? Everything God IS, is not only beautiful, it is also good. When you think of the GOODNESS of the Lord, what do you think of? Perfection? Purity? Grandness? Holiness? Love? Grace? Mercy? Our minds cant comprehend it. We know God is good, but we forget HOW good. When something happens to us that hurts, we often fail to remember what a good God He is. We start having doubts and wonder, IF GOD IS GOOD, WHY DID HE LET THIS HAPPEN? We forget that God is good even when things are bad. David said, You are my Lord, apart from You I have no good thing (Psalm 16:2). The Bible says to Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him (Psalm 34:8). In tough times we may doubt that God is really good because, just like His beauty, His goodness is greater than we can imagine. Our minds cannot even comprehend the breadth and the depth of it. Thats why, when we go through bad times, we have to REMIND ourselves of Gods goodness. Otherwise, we too easily forget. One of the ways we keep ourselves reminded of Gods goodness is to read His Word. It helps us remember that no matter what happens, He is a God of mercy and grace. You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call on You (Psalm 86:5). His mercy means He has compassion on us. His grace means He gives us what we dont deserve. His mercy and grace are signs of His goodness. His goodness is a sign of His amazing love. And we should love that about Him. Another way we can learn to completely trust that God is good is to praise Him for His goodness, no matter what is happening in our lives. Every time we do, it opens up the channels through which that particular aspect of His nature is poured into our hearts. You will be amazed when you pray this way how God will open your eyes to see things you havent seen before. The Lord has done or is doing so many good things we dont even think to give Him credit for. We either dont see them, or we take them for granted. The more you will see it manifested in your life. Because of Jesus, we can experience Gods goodness whenever we come to Him and worship Him. Our praise of Him opens our eyes to His goodness in our lives. And thats a beautiful thing!
