REPENTANCE AMONG THE SEVEN REBEL GOVERNORS! Remember them? Their rebellion which was primarily centred on the perceived body language of the sitting President to contest the 2015 presidential elections culminated into the defection of five of them to APC. Now read what one of the protagonists of the rebellion-Gov.Babangida Aliyu is currently saying: .... PDP is still one indivisible party and will remain so despite its crisis and problems. “Some people think they have injured us by defecting from the party but I am glad to tell you today that PDP is stronger, better, more democratic and transparent.” “We know where we are heading to. We do not have any major problem anymore. Everything that is happening now is open to everyone, everything is now transparent. We are now stronger and better.” Does this now mean that Govs. Amaechi and the others that defected have goofed big time? What of Atiku Abubakar that hopes to ride on the back of the defected governors to clinch the APC presidential ticket? Obj nko? He obviously thought that GEJ will not defy his admonitions to contest the 2015 elections, he had long before now penciled Gov. Sule Lamido down to clinch the PDP presidential ticket for the 2015 elections. Although the 7 initial rebel governors opposed the second term bid of GEJ,they werent quite united on who should be the PDP candidate: while Obj and his boys were scheming for Lamido, Atiku and some of the governors had a different idea. And from the trend of events the 5 governors that had moved to APC cannot be said to be disposed to Objs plan ,no wonder Sule Lamido and Aliyu refused to move to APC to advance Atikus chances. The staying back of Lamido and Aliyu in PDP has saved APC from the headache of managing and contending with Lamidos presidency as well as Objs chess game. It has also saved PDP from further weakening of its flanks but then both Lamidos presidency and Atikus ambition were injured by the splitting of the seven. It makes the defectors bidding weaker in APC with just 5 governors against 11 governors of APC. It also weakens opposition to GEJ within the PDP. GEJ might still need to watch the activities and intents of Govs. Lamido and Aliyu in addition to some of their quiet supporting Governors in PDP as he works to clinch the PDP ticket. In all ,I do not think that Babangida Aliyu has truly repented, but if indeed he has,let him prove it beyond all reasonable doubt.Same applies to Lamido and Obj but their position has been seriously weakened. As for APC, they are likely going to put up a good fight but that is what their chances will be at best in 2015- a good fight not a win.
