REPENTANCE By James Beckwith I think the meaning of repent is not understood. The root meaning of repent means to change your mind. It is used in the old testament for turning from sin,it is used by God turning from the judgement he would give to his people or others,and it clearly says God repented of evil he would do. For to kill man with righteous judgement is still considered evil by God,otherwise the Word of truth would not say it. But to change our mind from sin to God is not a flipping page from sinning to no sin at all,it is a conscious change in our mind to turn from it and grow closer to God,it takes alot of time for this to happen. The scripture says God repented of his evil he would do to his people,so God showed us for the first time in his Word what repenting meant,to turn from Sin> Exodus 32:14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. To Repent daily is a life long change we practice thru sanctification,which causes us to grow closer to the Lord by practicing righteousness and obeying his commandments. Repenting is not works,it is simply a change of mind that has to occur first before we change our acts or works. Repentance does LEAD to works,but it is the CHANGE of mind to that activate the works we produce later. This works together with salvation and IS FOR THE SINNER AS THE scripture says. Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. We realize we are a sinner to God and that we need Gods only begotten Son who paid the price for our sin as our Saviour. That thought process ALONE defines repenting. What the world has done is tried to dissolve repenting from being preached because they want to call it works salvation or not trusting in Jesus,this is nothing more from the truth that can be. But this scary lies leads the false convert into believing they can continue to sin without any remorse believing that Jesus paid the price for our sin and that we need not to be more like him and practice righteousness. Dont fall for the belif to turn from Sin is works. Dont fall for the lies that to have a change of mind is NOT trusting the finished work on the Cross that Jesus paid for us with his Imputed righteousness in exhange for our Sin. And dont fall for the belief of Lordship salvation as a calvinist would make you think they are only the elect and repentance means nothing to them with that occult belief. And dont fall for the lie of EASY BELIEVISM that one only need to believe in order to be saved. For the scripture says to repent for the remission of your sins Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Repentance and Faith in Christ is 2 things that can not be deemed separate.They go hand in hand,together for Salvation. For if it was not,than Jesus would have never said Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. And dont forget that the Lord calls EVERYONE to repent 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hosea 4:6 ¶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. The subject of repentance has been perverted and its a lie from the pit of Hell that satan has tried to sell to Gods people,and I will expose that lie so help me God.
